Building a better future for kids in need

A one-of-a-kind home worth an estimate $900,000 will go under the hammer next week to raise funds for South Australian children in need.

All proceeds from the sales of the Good Home at Oakden Rise will be donated to several children's charities, including the Sammy D Foundation, to support the delivery of its "critical' violence-prevention program in schools.

“The difference this makes to us is astronomical as it will determine how many kids we can reach,” Foundation Chief Executive Jannine Jackson said. Year 4 student Demi Wissell has enjoyed the program, which “teaches you how to take care of your mates and what (behaviour) isn’t OK”. The charity is one of six that will benefit from the sale alongside Kickstart for Kids, Backpacks 4 SA Kids, Women’s and Children’s Hospital Foundation, Childhood Cancer Association, and Channel 7 Children’s Research Foundation with Raising Literacy Australia.

Together with donors Villawood and Weeks Homes, the campaign is the first major initiative of The Advertiser Foundation’s Kids’ Appeal. The house is up for auction on November 1.
